Direction of temple in the house according to Vastu: Is the north-east ideal?

written by

The simple answer is yes, the north-east is considered the best zone for placing a temple. This zone represents the energies of ‘Clarity and Mind’.

This direction is related to the element of water, which represents purity, spirituality, and tranquillity, making it an excellent spot for prayers and meditation. The northeast orientation also gets the first rays of the morning sun, indicating fresh beginnings and blessings, thereby increasing the spiritual environment of the temple. Thus making this zone ideal for various prayer rooms.

Alternative ideal zones for a temple placement includes west and north-north-east zones in the cardinal directions of vastu.

Idol specific zones

There are other zones significant to particular idol placements in Vastu Shastra, along with placement of mandir;

  1. the east-north-east zone is ideal for Krishna-ji,

  2. the east zone is for Ram-ji,

  3. the north zone is considered to be ideal Laxmi-ji and Ganesh-jii, .

But there are some zones which are not ideal for an entire mandir, but for specific idols like;

  1. the south-east zone is for Durga-Maa and

  2. the south-south-east zone for Hanuman-ji,

  3. the west-south-west zone is considered ideal for Saraswati-Maa.

Important consideration

  1. The mandir should not be placed under the stairs

  2. The mandir should not be placed near a bathroom

Decoration of mandir

The colour of the mandir depends on the zone it is placed in and the element that it represents. There are no regulations for the type of decoration, and the owner may choose the material to their liking. But it is advised to use the material in their natural form.

The goal of placing a mandir in a house is to enhance the positivity in the house, and choosing the correct zone according to vastu further helps in enhancing the positive energy.
